Growing Strawberries at Lowland Areas
When pandemic starts in the Philippines last 2020, Plantitas and Plantitos also emerged or the ones who start to love gardening. Most people were stuck at home and found time gardening. Families have more time to spend together to make every moment memorable.
What Most of us Think About Growing Strawberries at Lowland Areas
Many were challenged as newbies on what kind of plants to have specially to those who came from lowland areas or having a hotter climate than Baguio or Tagaytay City. Thus, growing strawberry plants became one of their less choice. However, after trying it for myself and became successful in growing strawberry plants in lowland area (Lipa City), I would highly recommend it to everyone. Having strawberry fruits from my own garden is the best feeling I ever had as gardener. It's very fulfilling to see my plants grow and bear fruits by my own efforts.
Tips and Procedures to Grow Strawberries at Lowland Areas
1. Choose the varieties that can survive hot climate
Most varieties sold online are lowland varieties of strawberries such
Japanese Shoga, Sweet Charlie, Honeoye and etc. These varieties are perfect for beginners at lowland areas and can be availed through online.
2. Soil Preparation
Soil mixture is one of the factor that must be considered in growing strawberry. Prepared soil must be compost of garden soil, compost materials such as cow manure, rice hull, carbonized riced hull and other organic matter that gives nutrients to the soil.
3. Proper Nutrients
Apply proper fertilizer to your strawberry plants depending on it's needs. It can be commercial or organic fertilizer. Nitrogen is needed for lush and green leaves while potassium is to bear more fruits.
